LEGAL STUDIES (I THINK)

So, I know this doesn't look as "professional" (and I use that term lightly) as my other drawings, but that was because I was watching a movie in my Legal Studies class and I had a pen and paper. Why I chose the green pen, I honestly have no clue. Anyway there isn't much to say about this besides the fact that I gained a bit of respect from it.

HIBISCUS BEFORE AND AFTER

I haven't written or added anything to this blog in months so sorry to whoever is actually reading it. This also happens to me one of the first drawings I have done in months. The original plan was the picture towards the bottom of this post, but I stopped and took a picture when I had finished the hibiscus flowers because I thought they looked quite alright, if I do say so myself. Anyway, it took a couple of days because I got sick of it several times over and because I have just started back at school.

FIFTY SHADES OF BLUE PEACOCK

I'll admit, the name is cheesy and a little misleading, but I think you can see the reasoning behind it. Anyway, this arose from one of my friends (shout out to Aishya) wanting a drawing of a peacock, and I had a bit of time on my hands, therefore, what the hell, why not? So I drew up the design and my mate then asked me to paint it all different shades of blue. Now I cheated a little with the different shades of blue as there are only two different kinds; the body is pthalo blue and the tail and cobalt blue.

This was created with a 2B lead pencil, a 4 round paint brush, and a blue water colour palette.

THE FAULTS IN OUR STARS

This is the cover for the up and coming movie 'The Faults in Our Stars', originally a book by one of my favourite authors, John Green. My friend Gabby actually introduced me to this book and I have been reading his work ever since. THANKS GABBY. She is also an up and coming artist who thinks up a lot of her designs faster than I can snap my fingers. She doesn't have a website as far as I know, but if I get a hold of any of her pictures, I'll be sure to upload one.

Anyway, back to the drawings. The ill-fated girl, Hazel Grace Lancaster, (who has the same last name as the previous member of Mayday Parade, Jason Lancaster) is lying on the grass with her ill-fated partner, Augustus Waters. The original picture has so much love and colour in it that its impossible to know what the story is going to be about, until you see the cannula on Hazel.

I guess the part of this picture that I am most proud of would have to be the curls in Augustus' hair. It's my FIRST EVER ATTEMPT at curly hair and took me ages the figure out.

This picture, all in all, took a surprisingly short week to complete (mixed in with school, a diminishing social life, endless chores, and a dreadful amount of home work).

PATTERNS AND EMUS

Again, this is not my design, but I also didn't choose it so thats probably why it seems so out of place. My mum found this picture of an emu and asked me to paint it for her. I said "yep, just wait until I finish this one first (Anywhere But Here #2)", so it was finished a week ago I think, because I wasn't happy with the emu and did it again. The flash on my camera has changed the colours on the beak of this flightless bird, so I'll just have to describe what it actually looks like. The beak is open and the inside is burnt umber, whereas the outside of the beak is textured (which you can slightly see) and is a mix of yellow oxide, burnt umber, and burnt sienna, with a small gold streak down the middle and also on the tip of the beak.

All those circles that can be seen are actually a series of dots and thats what took the longest.

ANYWHERE BUT HERE #2

I know I have already drawn this picture, but a couple of weeks ago I was sitting on my bed, going through my posts ('cause my life is just that great) when I stumbled upon the drawing and thought to myself "Holy s***, how cool would this look painted, and I have the perfect size canvas". So here it is, Anywhere But Here #2. For anyone who is new to this website and hasn't seen the drawn version of this, just scroll down a bit and you will eventually find it. I'm gonna have to say I prefer this version to the drawn one, because the red doesn't look so out of place (probably because there's more of it) and also the contrast of light and dark between the white collar of the shirt and the lapels of the suit. If you look closely at the collar, you can see that where it finishes, the shirt behind it is slightly darker. This was another pro for Anywhere But Here #2 because its more of a creamy colour than grey. The person underneath the umbrella (I call him the umbrella man or red umbrella man) is a lot darker than I intended and I think to dark for the picture. He's more of a silhouette.

LOTUS FLOWER/YIN YANG TATTOO DESIGN

These are the tattoo designs I was talking about that I got paid for. The customer wanted a lotus flower with a yin yang to represent the equality and faithfulness in her relationship. Out of all the designs she chose the top left one (that was my least favourite). I guess it was the one I liked the least because I was over drawing and just wanted them done, but they are my favourite lotus flowers out of all of them.

DRAWING COMPETITION

Yes, I know I have drawn the eye quite recently, but as it says in the title this was for a competition. I was bored in my second art class and i didnt want to start a new project because the term has almost finished so I had a challenge with one of my friends (she is an amazing artist). We even had judges. Liam was the mean judge; like Simon Cowell. Jake was the nice judge that says yes to everyone and Tierney was the dumb judge (these are actually their personalities, except Liam, he is actually quite nice). Anyway I won three rounds out of five, but only took a picture of these two. My friend won the planet and flower rounds and I won the owl, eye and rabbit rounds. I was pretty proud of the owl, but that was the only one.

EYE

This eye, I'm gonna have to say, is a s*** load better than my fallen angel eye because it has more detail and I have actually watched tutorials on how to draw eyes and mouth and noses.

The eyelashes are the next step for me to master as you can see. They aren't placed right and look random and fake. You'll see the next one soon, once school finishes (in two weeks).

MERMAID SITTING ON A ROCK

First  attempt at drawing a mermaid. I know it could be a lot better, but I'll get there eventually. I don't usually draw mermaids and I know I'll probably never draw one again so it doesn't bother me that much that its not perfect.

WATER SWIRL

Sorry I haven't been putting up any posts, school has been hectic so I haven't had the chance.

I am going to admit straight up that this isn't my design although I would have loved to take the credit. The design is amazing and that means the original artist must be - excuse my french - f***ing awesome.

This took about a day because of the detail and trying to get the picture to scale. This was drawn about a month ago, not long after the lotus flower tattoo design.

That reminds me, I have been asked to design more tattoos since then and also do a painting for someone and I am getting paid for all of it - kind of an unofficial job - even though I specifically told them not to pay me.

OM MANI PADME HUM

Yuri, this is your tattoo design. Yes, another one. My sister was talking about tattoos with her unofficial Brazilian 'boyfriend' and he asked me if I would draw his. He wanted part of the sign 'om mani padme hum' so that has been incorporated on one of the petals of the lotus flower.

The lotus flower was chosen as it apparently means faithfulness - my brother recently got a lotus flower as a tattoo to represent his faithfulness to his girlfriend of five years (five years in one week).

This was probably one of my quickest drawings, only taking an hour and a half. But its pretty noticeable that it was quick as it doesn't half as much detail as the others.

COMPASS

Sorry about the shadows on this one. My sister was trying to take a photo of it the same time that I was. This picture, surprisingly, didn't take that long to complete. It was one 55-minute art class and about two hours after school.

My sister wants this as a tattoo, but I do as well and we both want it in the same place (top of the foot, near the toes). Sadly she's gonna get it before me because I have to wait until I'm 18 and she is 18 in 3 months.

Damn her . . .

I love the design on this and I think that without the feathers it would look quite boring, but they were the hardest part. Just trying to get the right shape with them drove me crazy.

FLOWER

I know what I said before about not calling any of my drawings "Flower", but what else could I have called this one.

I restarted it at least three times. This is my favourite drawing I have ever done. It has so much detail and the effect of dark to light gives it a better look than I could have ever imagined. Flower looks a whole lot better than I thought it would.

AWE

My flash has done it again, but there is an outline this time so its not as big a deal as before.

This isn't my pattern, but it looked interesting and - you gotta admit - ended up looking quite effective. It reminds me of a flower, but I didn't want to call it "flower" because it sounds to familiar.

THE MAN

Creative name, I know. I couldn't think of anything else to call it so "The Man" it is. That's also what my dogs name means.

Anyway this is about to sound very pathetic, but this took me two months to draw because I was scared of the lips. Bare in mind this is the first person I've attempted to draw in a couple of years.

ANYWHERE BUT HERE

No everyone, I am not depressed. This is the actual name of the picture. This is the album cover of Mayday Parade's "Anywhere But Here" album. This took forever and I sincerely congratulate the artist who created this.

I think the man walking along the tie/road is the umbrella man who is seen on nearly every album cover except for "Vadolsta" and "Monsters In The Closet". He is also the background for my phone's homescreen.

FAERY GARDEN LANTERN

This is gonna sound really lame, but this lantern is from my mum's faery garden. Yes, faery garden. She loves fairies and anything mystical so its not a "fairy garden", its a "faery garden" as in fey.

Anyway, this took about two days - my whole weekend - when I should have been doing my homework. I actually got the shading right on this one, even in the textured glass - which you can't really see in the picture.

DECORATIVE EYE

Wanting to draw an eye successfully has always been a dream of mine and here it is. The pupil of the eye is a bit light for my liking, and some of the shading around the white of the eye is missing, but I'm fine with it.

FALLEN ANGEL

I got this idea from wanting to draw a person, but I can never get the proportions right. Then I drew the girl, but the page look so bare, so I decided to add wings and call her a fallen angel. FIRST EVER ANGLE DRAWING!! I gonna have to say that I'm proud of this one. Sounds a bit up myself, but who cares :p

CAPRICORN

I tried to get the best picture possible for this one, but as you can see MY PHONE HATES ME!! No actually it likes me, I just hate it. The flash makes it look a lot worse than it is, but it was too dark without the flash.

Anyway, this one took about two weeks cos its covering an A3 piece of paper and in those two weeks I got two assignments for each of my seven school subjects, not including art. I started with the capricorn sign in the centre and built on different patterns. I didn't intend for it to get that big, but I ended up having a lot of "breaks" from my work. I assure you I was not procrastinating ;)

CITY SKYLINE

I would've uploaded this one earlier, except I couldn't find the picture that I had taken of it. The colours in the water are the reflections of the city lights how I imagine them. If you look closely and towards the orange, there is an over-sized tree and a smaller, but still over-sized tree next to that one. The lights on the buildings took longer than the rest of the painting - about a day.

Never dot painting again!!

SUNRISE SILOUHETTE

This isn't a drawing and this isn't a painting. I know, shocker. This is actually a photo I took of the sunrise at my grandma's place in South Australia on the Eyre Peninsula. And to make this photo even more amazing is the fact that I took this photo was taken on my old Nokia, and I seriously mean old. The ones with the buttons, silver casing, you could throw it in a volcano and it would still work. That model (which is nearly all of them) and it still had a better camera than my phone at the moment.

Back to the picture. It was about 5:00am and I don't even know why I was up that early. I loved the colours behind the trees and had to take a picture. You can see why.

Still counts as art.

ELEPHANT CLOSE-UP

An elephant I had to draw for my Geography assignment. My teacher saw it, then she "ooooo"ed and then said "I wanted to see the whole body of the elephant", passed the drawing back to me and walked back to her desk. My friend called her a few very inappropriate words for that, gotta love him.

But I ended up getting an A- I'm pretty happy.

MAYDAY PARADE DESIGN

I only did this because I absolutely LOVE MAYDAY PARADE and I am so excited for their newest album "Monsters in the Closet" to come out. I already know its going to be great and I have only heard one song from it so far. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!

Sorry, got a bit excited. The different letters on this were all fonts from Dafont.com, one of the most useful websites for different fonts when you can't make one up yourself because your brain isn't working. Thanks Dafont

I just realised how cheesy that sounded. OOPS!!

PRAYING MANTIS

Probably sounds weird, but about a month ago, I won a competition with this piece. It a praying mantis in case you didn't recognize it. I wouldn't have so don't feel bad if you didn't know. The photo was taken with my phone so the colours aren't very enhanced, but believe me that the photos are a lot brighter in reality, especially along the wings where the yellow merges into red.

Somehow it won . . . I don't know how, but it made me laugh :)

GOLDEN TREE

This painting was my first attempt using texture paste and the majority of it either went on the table (mum is gonna kill me), on the floor (then I'm gonna die a second time), and also all over me (which I'm not to bothered about). Anyone that tried to use texture paste and failed, comment so I know I'm not the only one or just leave me to be the only one. I'm fine either way. Anyway, I finally got the painting done after two days and it's not as good as I wanted it to be, but who cares, I'm still learning. It's also my first three canvas painting.

TIPS: If your as uncoordinated as I am, don't use a sponge. I did for the background and the colours haven't blended very well,  but if your confident enough I say go ahead.

FLOWER STEM

Only had my HB pencil to draw this so its a bit lighter than I wanted it and some of the detail can't be viewed, but oh well. It kept me entertained for a few hours before going fishing. Tell me if you think it's dark enough because I'm not so sure at the moment.

FRANGIPANIS

Bare with me for this one. Started painting recently and this is the result of my first painting. It's far from perfect, I know, but I said that this blog would show my journey in art and that now includes painting. These are the frangipanis from my dad's frangipani tree. His partner wanted a painting of the flowers so I agreed to do it.

THROUGH THE TREES

This drawing took about a day and I am going to admit now that this isn't my design, but I did name it. It was a practice that turned out to be a lot better than I expected so I say it deserves the blog. The original design was better in my eyes and I congratulate the designer. It was difficult as most of these first drawings were done at the start of the year when I was still learning, even though I still am. My favourite one out of the posts so far.

By the way, I'm Australian so my spelling may be different to others as I am old school and refuse to take on other countries spelling. No offense guys . . . I just don't like change.
